Vietnam started issuing a new type of passport in July 2022. The upgrade adds a number of improvements to prevent counterfeiting, along with other features. It’s not just about the cover page that changed but also the new advanced technology added! If you want to live in Vietnam and learn about the new Vietnam passport, let’s find out more about these new changes. Here are 5 things you need to know about New Vietnam Passport!
The Old vs The New
The Vietnam passport that we all know has had a green cover page. However, in the new passport, the color of the cover is dark blue. It looks similar to a US passport. Inside the new passport, you will see tourist attractions depicted on each page that you might recognize, from Ha Long Bay and Hue Citadel to Hoi An and Nha Rong Harbor.
FULL NAME has changed!
In the old passport, Vietnamese names were placed in this order: Last Name, Middle Name, and First Name. They were displayed on the same line. This created confusion for foreign authorities when verifying Vietnamese passport holders. So the government decided to change it! Names are displayed in separate lines in accordance with international standards used by most countries in the world such as the US, UK, France, etc.
