JOB BRIEF
We are looking for a driven, motivated, eager-to-learn 4th year bachelor of laws student to join our legal internship program from one semester to one year (or longer). This legal intern will be assigned to our legal department reporting to a supervising attorney (may be the managing partner) to provide legal support, such as legal research, writing memoranda, drafting and responding to emails, drafting, negotiating and reviewing contracts, training, business development preparation activities, and some business development activities. Also, non-legal support, including preparing presentations, photography and videography, researching topics, and marketing activities.
What does a LEGAL INTERN do?
The LEGAL INTERN will play a supporting role and thus willing to work outside any particular scope of work assigned, as the work can vary greatly from legal work to non-legal and administrative work, such as answering the phones, setting up the conference room, ordering meals for the staff, organizing an event, and other ad hoc work.
Responsibilities
- Perform legal research and drafting memoranda
- Drafting, negotiating and reviewing contracts
- Organize and schedule appointments
- Plan meetings and take detailed minutes
- Write and distribute email, correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms
- Assist in the preparation of regularly scheduled reports
- Maintain contact lists
- Provide general support to visitors
Requirements
- Enrolled in a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program at a law school or university in any jurisdiction
- In the final year of study in the LLB program
- Proficient and above in English speaking, reading, and writing, especially with legal terminology (candidate will be tested)
- Knowledge of office management systems and procedures
- Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers and fax machines
- Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular)
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work
- Attention to detail and problem solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
