Sending packages in Vietnam is surprisingly easy, but it can be daunting if you don’t know the process. Understanding all the necessary steps can help you save time shipping from Vietnam while being cost-efficient. In this article, we are going to show you how to ship mails and packages from Vietnam to anywhere in the world. We also created a comprehensive visual down below for visual learners!
Step 1: Choose a Post Office
We recommend you to use Vietnam Post (VN Post) services. Vietnam Post is the only designated postal operator to provide public postal services, with the ability to ship internationally. You can find their offices across Vietnam, which makes it easier for you to when you need to ship anything. Not all post offices in Vietnam accept international shipments though. To check that, you can go to Vietnam post’s website and search a post office near you or call Vietnam post, or simply visit the post office in question and ask them.
Step 2: Prepare your items to ship & DO NOT wrap them
As a note, we also need to mention that not all your items will be accepted. Check out VN Post’s website to see its policy regarding shipping overseas. There is a warning if you want to ship liquid overseas, although the policy says that you can ship liquid, but in practice, there is a great probability for your liquid items to be denied by the post clerk. Welcome to Vietnam!
The most important thing you need to remember is DO NOT wrap your items you want to ship, as the post clerk has to check every item to be shipped.
Step 3: Fill The Declaration Form
After your items are thoroughly checked, the officer will hand a declaration form to fill in with the usual description, quantity, pricing and address formalities. If you want to come prepared like a pro and fill in the form beforehand, download Vietnam-Post-Declaration-Form-Duong-Global.
The best thing about Vietnam Post is that they will wrap your items up and pack them for you, so you can sit back and relax!
Step 4: Choose The Shipping Method
Once your declaration form is filled out and your shipment all packed, go to the Cashier Counter. Then, choose a method of shipment.
The best way to send your package depends on how quickly you want it to arrive, its size, and weight. There are 3 main options you can choose from: by boat (Surface), by airmail (by Air) and by EMS (Express). The cheapest method is by boat, although the delivery time may take up to 8 business weeks. If your shipment is not urgent, you can choose to send it by airmail, as it takes about 2 business weeks to get delivered to most destinations. In case you are in a rush, choose EMS, as it is the fastest shipping method, taking only up to 3 to 5 business days to most destinations.
Step 5: Make Payment (Use Cash Only)
After all those above steps are completed, the cashier will hand you a receipt that has all of your shipping info, and tracking number upon payment by cash. You are all set and your shipment is good to go.
