It is no secret that Vietnam tourism numbers are bad. In 2023, incoming travelers were 70% below the pre-pandemic levels. What it means for Vietnam is a massive loss of revenue to revive a struggling tourism sector and boost the economy as a whole. But, in the tourism industry, Vienam visa faces tough competitors, especially from regional countries that have launched a “visa race” to attract more international travelers and long-term holidaymakers.
To give you an idea, Thailand took just over two months to welcome the number of international travelers that Vietnam did in an entire year. That is huge!
Thailand has considered to double its duration of stay for visa-free western passport holders. It also has recently waived visas for citizens of China and India to boost tourism as well. Malaysia last year also tripled the duration of the visa-free stay for Hong Kong passport holders to 90 days. As a result, Malaysia recorded nearly 29 million foreign arrivals last year, becoming the most popular destination in Southeast Asia. The 30-day visa exemption for Indian and Chinese tourists also contributed to boosting the tourist number. Meanwhile, Vietnam has done nothing! Or it seems that Vietnam has done nothing, but behind the scenes, it is coming with a plan that will certainly change the views of many to travel to Vietnam.

Hi I was watching one of your videos. It was talking about the retirement visa. So if it does pass they would require a a person to make $4,000 US dollars a month? To move to Vietnam? I’m 57 and would love to retire there in a couple of years. Hopefully you can give me a little insight on that. Thank you so much..

I am a retired Canadian living in Vietnam on a 3 months tourist visa. With an average social security income of about 40-42 million dong per month and a 3-5 % increase per year. What are my options outside the current tourist evisa.
