Recently, the Vietnam Immigration Department changed its rules. Now, people from 80 countries can get a 90-day multiple entry e-visa starting from August 15, 2023. In addition, Vietnam allows 25 nationalities to stay longer without a visa.
Good news about longer stays in country, what about the retirement visa. Let’s explore more about it!
First, let’s review Vietnam’s neighboring countries that offer retirement visas.
Asean Countries Have Retirement Visa
- Indonesia: The retirement visa is only for certain nationalities, and you must be at least 55 years old to apply. To qualify, you need to show that you have a pension or financial support of at least $18,000 USD per year in Indonesia, along with health insurance and a signed annual lease.
- Thailand: To get Thailand’s retirement visa, you need either THB 800,000 in a Thai bank account for at least 3 months before extending the visa or a monthly income of at least THB 65,000. You can apply for this visa when you turn 50 or older.
- Malaysia: Malaysia has a program called “Malaysia My Second Home” for retirees. If you’re between 25 and 49 years old or 50 and above, you can apply. For those over 50, you’ll need $83,000 USD in savings and a monthly income of $2,370 USD from abroad to qualify. With this program, foreigners can live in Malaysia for up to 10 years.
- Philippines: which is one of the easiest countries to get it. The Philippines has a program for foreign retirees, and more than 64,000 people have already joined. It’s called the Special Residence Retiree’s Visa. If you’re 50 years old or above, you need to have $10,000 USD in the bank and a monthly pension of $800 USD. This visa allows you to visit the Philippines multiple times and live there.
