Vietnam changed its e-visa policy again! And it is a good news/bad news type of situation. If you thought immigration laws in Vietnam happened once in a lifetime, think again! There is a number of added gems and requirements to this new 90-day e-visa. And we are here to break them down for you and explain those changes. From the number of eligible countries to visa exemption and new requirements to qualify for the e-visa!
Vietnam E-Visa
With the new 90-day multiple entry visa, it was expected that only 80 nationalities were eligible for it, just as it has been for the past two years with the e-visa.
But in a turn of events, now all countries and nationalities are technically eligible for the Vietnam e-visa! In other words, if you are from South-Africa for example, you can now apply for the e-visa. Whereas you had to book a tour package from a Vietnam travel agency to be granted a tourist visa since Vietnam reopened the country last year. Sound good, right? But even in the good news, there is a caveat: you can still be eligible but we don’t know if all nationalities will be granted an e-visa even if they are eligible.
Vietnam Visa Exemption
The proposal for the new E-Visa policy recommended an extension of stay from 15 to 45 days for visa exemptions. As of January 2022, regular passport holders of 25 countries DO NOT need a visa for Vietnam. Many of them from Asean countries.
However, although you can now stay up to 45 days in Vietnam visa-free, the new amendment restricts it to only 13 countries as opposed to 25 countries as originally proposed. The list includes: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Belarus. So there is no change for US travelers and they are NOT on the list of visa exemption!
The New List Of Requirements And Disclosure
Prior to 8/15, the Vietnam e-visa application only required to share basic information such as information on your passport, how many days you spent in Vietnam and the intended address of stay. However, with this new amendment, there are a lot more of evidence to submit for the e-visa application.
