Exciting news for those who want to travel to Vietnam in 2023! We will discuss the latest updates on Vietnam visas. How many days can you stay in Vietnam? Can US citizens be exempt from the visa requirement? And when does this exemption come into effect? So let’s get started!
First off, let’s have look at how E-visa has been working so far
Vietnam first introduced the e-visa system to facilitate the process of getting tourist visas back in 2017. This allows eligible visitors to apply online, eliminating the need to visit a Vietnamese embassy or consulate.
The validity period of a Vietnam e-visa has been 30 days on a single entry. This means that you only were able to enter Vietnam once during a maximum 30-day period, and you would have to leave the country before the its expires. In other words, you would have to do visa runs to renew your visa if you wanted to stay longer in Vietnam.
Second, Visa Exemption
Another way to get to Vietnam was with a visa exemption. That (also known as visa waiver, or visa free) means that foreign nationals from eligible countries are allowed to enter Vietnam and stay in the country for a certain period of time without having to apply for any visa, as the Vietnam government has signed the bilateral/unilateral visa exemption agreements. As of January 2022, regular passport holders of 25 countries DO NOT need a visa for Vietnam. Many of them from Asean countries. Citizens of countries that are unilaterally exempted from visas by Vietnam are granted temporary stay from 14 days to 90 days at a time.
