The Early Days: The Challenge of Integration
His journey began with a vision of reacquainting himself with his Vietnamese roots and making a meaningful contribution to the nation’s legal system. However, he quickly realized that transitioning to life in Vietnam was not without its difficulties. He had to adapt to a different way of life, adjust to cultural norms, and learn to navigate the language barrier.
One of the biggest challenges was integrating into Vietnamese society. He recalls, “It wasn’t always easy to fit in. Being a ‘Viet Kieu‘ (foreigner of Vietnamese origin) in Vietnam can be a double-edged sword. While my background gave me a sense of belonging, it also set me apart in many ways.”
