After the collapse of Vietnam’s real estate, it seems like Vietnam is willing to ease restrictions on foreigners owning houses in Vietnam in 2023.
To be clear, Vietnam allows foreign citizens to buy condos in selected areas under a 50-year freehold lease since 2015. However, there is a new amendment that has been proposed that will revolutionize Vietnam’s foreign property ownership. Let’s find out what will change!
99-year Renewable Term
Since 2015, Vietnam laws limited ownership right for foreigners when it comes to buy houses in Vietnam. Basically, as a foreign national, you can only own apartments or villa in selected real estate properties as long as the city district you live in allows it. However, you cannot own land and for that matter, nobody can own land in Vietnam the same way as you own it in United States or in western countries. Instead, you own a property title in Vietnam. In the case of expats, you own the title for 50 years and renew 50 years. It is called a 99-year renewable term.
